Erotic Romance Author Spotlight: Jaxx Steele

According to Jaxx Steele, his writings are a combination of some things that he has learned over the years, good and bad, mixed up with a lot of imagination. He says he can only hope that you like what you read.

Jaxx was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, but  escaped and now lives in Indiana. His dream is to buy a house near the beach and write all day and make enough money to live off it. He spends most of his time working a nine to five and traveling, when he can, to new and wondrous places that he can incorporate in to his stories (or that will at least spark ideas for him). He does have love in his life thanks to his life partner, Hou, and their cat, Judo, who graciously lets them live with him in his house. So, all in all, he has a full and happy life.

Jaxx took some time to answer some questions about both himself and his writing.

1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I was always a reader, but then one day I wanted to write. It was like an epiphany right before I turned 12. I read the romances that were around me, but as I got older I wanted to read books with men like me. The rest is history.

2. How long does it take you to write a book?
Each book is different and requires its own time to come to conclusion. I have written one in less than 30 days and one that took me 3 months because I wanted my research to be on point.

3: What does your family think of your writing?
LOL. My family thinks my writing erotic gay romance is a phase that will pass. I just celebrated 8 years as a published author and they’re still saying that.

4: Chocolate or vanilla?
CHOCOLATE!

5: Tea or Coffee?
Tea

6: What are you working on now? What is your next project?
I am putting the finishing touches on a fantasy story I call A Double Sacrifice. I’m hoping to submit it soon.

7: Are you a plotter or a pantster?
I’m a plotter. I know the beginning, the middle and the end before I even touch my computer. The characters move me from one point to the next to fill in the blanks.

8: How did you choose the genre you write in?
I read romance books when I was younger because that’s what was around me. I liked them but could never really get into them because they were hetero. I wanted to see men in the lead roles so I decided to write one.

9: Do you ever experience writer’s block? If so how do you get past it? Oh yes! Writer’s block comes for us all eventually. When it hits me I watch movies or listen to music to help take my mind to other things.

10: If you only had one word to describe yourself, what would it be and why?
I would say: Eclectic. The dictionary says eclectic is: not following any one system, but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems. I think that’s me in a nutshell.

We’d like to thank Jaxx for taking the time out of her writing schedule to talk to us. Jaxx’s latest book is  entitled: Him for the Holidays and below you will find an excerpt from this well written tale:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Donald’s heart pounded so hard it actually hurt in his chest. He was having a heart attack—he just knew it—but Donald prayed the men wouldn’t stop pleasuring him. His pending orgasm would be worth dying for. The third man used his hot, aggressive mouth to take Donald’s breath away, then he released Donald but only for a moment. The striking ginger looked into his eyes and spoke softly.
“Relax, Donald, we’re going to make you feel like you’ve never felt before. Don’t you think it’s about time?”
Oh God, yes! It is definitely time!
Donald nodded vigorously. It had been years since someone other than himself had gotten him off. He’d never believed that old wives’ tale that too much masturbation would make hair grow on your palms—although he did check his hands daily to make sure. There was nothing wrong with being safe. After one more kiss on Donald’s lips, the soft-spoken blond volleyball player moved his mouth down Donald’s Adam’s apple, silencing Donald’s thoughts.
Shifting to first one side of his throat then up the other, he left a trail of hot licks between each nibble. The men took turns sucking Donald’s neck and fingers while they attacked his nipples with their tongues. He loved it all, but almost screamed his joy as the blond beachgoer enveloped Donald’s cock in the warm, wet heat of his full-lipped mouth. Sweet sensation overwhelmed Donald, making his head spin. The pleasure built quickly within him.
Everyone’s hands, lips and tongues seemed to be everywhere at once playing, teasing, tasting him— all in sync to bring him satisfaction. Yes! I’m going to come—finally.
“Donald!”
The sound of his mother’s voice made the men disappear with a loud mental pop.
What the—?
Interview With Gay Romance Blogger and Author Jaxx Steele
IMG_0015I have the great pleasure to interview today gay romance blogger and author Jaxx Steele from Guys Like Romance, Too! He has an exciting blog where he has a theme every month and features authors he admires and supports. He also features the best m/m books to read out there. If you’re looking for a resource created with so much passion and packed with a lot of value, I strongly recommend you check his blog!
Tell us about you and your blog. Where can we read it?
Three years ago Carson Douglas, an avid reader of m/m literature, and I, a gay romance author, decided we wanted to help shine the spot light on the genre that we loved so much. At the time we couldn’t find any blog sites solely dedicated to m/m literature. So we talked it over and launched Guys Like Romance, Too! in December, 2011. Guys Like Romance, Too is a theme oriented blog site, meaning each month has a specific theme that the author’s book must have in order to blog that month with the exception of blog tours. We felt this was a good way to give all genres a chance to shine and it alerts the readers interested in that particular a chance to peek at several authors and books in their favorite genre. This is the direct link www.guyslikeromancetoo.blogspot.com
Why are you passionate about reading and reviewing m/m books?
I have always loved reading books of all genres. I read my first gay romance in 2005 and I knew that I wanted to write them. We hooked up with Slave’s Erotic Reviews early 2013 because we were getting so many emails from people asking if we reviewed also. Slave’s Erotic Reviews lost 2 reviewers due to offline conflicts, thus they are on hiatus until the turn of the year to catch up and acquire new reviewers.
When did you start blogging?
We opened our doors with a holiday celebration in December, 2011.
Many of my readers love reading m/m blogs but what makes yours unique compared to others?
I think our theme schedule makes us different. For example, by looking at our schedule readers who really like alien books, steampunk or transgender books knew to come check us our in August when our theme was ‘Out the Box: the untouched genres’. Our unique schedule gives the author the ability to plan ahead. Also we have partnered with Totally Bound Publishing and Dreamspinner Press. Both house produce excellent m/m books of all genres and they have their own days for their authors to shine: Totally Bound Mondays and Hump Days with Dreamspinner Press.
What would you like to see more of in m/m literature that you don’t see now?
Personally I’d like to see more of the out the box stuff, the steampunk, alien, transgender and the like. It is an under rated area and some really good stories can come from that area.
What are tips you can give to aspiring reviewers?
It’s always best to be honest when you review someones work, but a good reviewer remembers that the author has put their heart and soul into writing that story. Taking others feeling into consideration may be the way to go when giving your opinion.
Jamie Lake is the author of Bad Boy: Naughty at Night and other m/m gay romance novels.
Jaxx Steele, author of A Packaged Deal
Three of my favorite desserts:
• New York cheesecake with or without strawberries because I’m not really a cake person so this is my go-to dessert.
Fudge brownies because I am a serious chocoholic that refuses to get treatment. It’s my drug of choice.
• And … raspberries with white chocolate chips inside them. I pop them when I am stuck at my computer in “the zone” because they feed my chocolate addiction and don’t mess up my fingers.
Here’s the blurb about A Packaged Deal:
Murder, greed and jealousy took everything Reynaud had. His lover, high position and his way of life were gone in the blink of an eye. Condemned for a crime he didn’t commit, Reynaud was doomed to suffer the highest punishment his people could bestow. Only the love of a mentor saved him from destruction, giving him a second chance at life.
After more than 100 years he finally met Cameron. Cam’s love set him free and helped him put his life back on track, but something still nagged in the back of Reynaud’s mind. He hoped going ‘home’ would ease his weariness, but it only raised more questions. It was apparent that things had changed during his absence. Friends had lost their places and enemies had gained undeserved power.
Will the final confrontation with his past destroy everything Reynaud had in his present preventing him from having a future with Cam?
