Kristy Grissom “This was a cute story that explored everything you could want from a paranormal story. You have a werewolf sprites, the magic of the forest, and of course with heartache blooms love…”  Read the rest of the Review at BTSe Mag.

Erotic Romance Author Spotlight: Jaxx Steele

According to Jaxx Steele, his writings are a combination of some things that he has learned over the years, good and bad, mixed up with a lot of imagination. He says he can only hope that you like what you read.

Jaxx was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, but  escaped and now lives in Indiana. His dream is to buy a house near the beach and write all day and make enough money to live off it. He spends most of his time working a nine to five and traveling, when he can, to new and wondrous places that he can incorporate in to his stories (or that will at least spark ideas for him). He does have love in his life thanks to his life partner, Hou, and their cat, Judo, who graciously lets them live with him in his house. So, all in all, he has a full and happy life.

Jaxx took some time to answer some questions about both himself and his writing.

1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I was always a reader, but then one day I wanted to write. It was like an epiphany right before I turned 12. I read the romances that were around me, but as I got older I wanted to read books with men like me. The rest is history.

2. How long does it take you to write a book?
Each book is different and requires its own time to come to conclusion. I have written one in less than 30 days and one that took me 3 months because I wanted my research to be on point.

3: What does your family think of your writing?
LOL. My family thinks my writing erotic gay romance is a phase that will pass. I just celebrated 8 years as a published author and they’re still saying that.

4: Chocolate or vanilla?
CHOCOLATE!

5: Tea or Coffee?
Tea

6: What are you working on now? What is your next project?
I am putting the finishing touches on a fantasy story I call A Double Sacrifice. I’m hoping to submit it soon.

7: Are you a plotter or a pantster?
I’m a plotter. I know the beginning, the middle and the end before I even touch my computer. The characters move me from one point to the next to fill in the blanks.

8: How did you choose the genre you write in?
I read romance books when I was younger because that’s what was around me. I liked them but could never really get into them because they were hetero. I wanted to see men in the lead roles so I decided to write one.

9: Do you ever experience writer’s block? If so how do you get past it? Oh yes! Writer’s block comes for us all eventually. When it hits me I watch movies or listen to music to help take my mind to other things.

10: If you only had one word to describe yourself, what would it be and why?
I would say: Eclectic. The dictionary says eclectic is: not following any one system, but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems. I think that’s me in a nutshell.

We’d like to thank Jaxx for taking the time out of her writing schedule to talk to us. Jaxx’s latest book is  entitled: Him for the Holidays and below you will find an excerpt from this well written tale:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Donald’s heart pounded so hard it actually hurt in his chest. He was having a heart attack—he just knew it—but Donald prayed the men wouldn’t stop pleasuring him. His pending orgasm would be worth dying for. The third man used his hot, aggressive mouth to take Donald’s breath away, then he released Donald but only for a moment. The striking ginger looked into his eyes and spoke softly.
“Relax, Donald, we’re going to make you feel like you’ve never felt before. Don’t you think it’s about time?”
Oh God, yes! It is definitely time!
Donald nodded vigorously. It had been years since someone other than himself had gotten him off. He’d never believed that old wives’ tale that too much masturbation would make hair grow on your palms—although he did check his hands daily to make sure. There was nothing wrong with being safe. After one more kiss on Donald’s lips, the soft-spoken blond volleyball player moved his mouth down Donald’s Adam’s apple, silencing Donald’s thoughts.
Shifting to first one side of his throat then up the other, he left a trail of hot licks between each nibble. The men took turns sucking Donald’s neck and fingers while they attacked his nipples with their tongues. He loved it all, but almost screamed his joy as the blond beachgoer enveloped Donald’s cock in the warm, wet heat of his full-lipped mouth. Sweet sensation overwhelmed Donald, making his head spin. The pleasure built quickly within him.
Everyone’s hands, lips and tongues seemed to be everywhere at once playing, teasing, tasting him— all in sync to bring him satisfaction. Yes! I’m going to come—finally.
“Donald!”
The sound of his mother’s voice made the men disappear with a loud mental pop.
What the—?
Review: I have to admit I’m a Jaxx Steele fan. This author has a talent for writing novellas which develop rich characters, weave tight plot lines, and pack in some sexual and emotional heat. Not all readers enjoy reading shorter stories, but this author makes a shorter-lengthed novel feel longer.
In this story we meet Phillip Drake. In college he has a one night encounter with a woman (despite the fact he’s gay), which results in the birth of his son Tyrell. While this wasn’t the turn he envisioned for his life, his son brings him great joy, and Phillip accepts the responsibility of fatherhood without complaint or resentment.
When an unfortunate accident claims the life of Tyrell’s mother, Phillip is left picking up the pieces of his broken life. Travelling home to his mother and sister, he begins to rebuild a foundation for himself and his son. But two things stand in his way of moving forward: Tryell’s grandparents are fighting Phillip for custody of the child. While they’d shown no interest in any of their lives prior to their daughter’s death, their homophobia and greed (over inheritance money) threaten to break Phillip and Tyrell apart. The other thing that stands in the way of Phillips happiness is the resurfacing of his former lover, James, who never lost his feelings for Phillip. Of course, Phillip never lost his feelings for James either, but his life is so complicated, how could he possibly drag someone else into the mess?
What I loved about this story was the believability of the emotions. Phillip had real struggles. The way his in-laws tried to use his sexuality as a weapon against him in their battle for custody was painful to experience, yet he handled himself with dignity and pride. The heat between Phillip and James was steamy, and the cast of secondary characters were well-developed.
My only complain about the story is that, as a shorter-length book, there wasn’t enough time to go really deep. I would have enjoyed watching the relationship between Phillip and James develop more slowly, seeing the struggles before the reconciliation. I also would have enjoyed the torture of watching the custody battle drawn out a bit more. But, by nature, a shorter novel requires ends be tied up more quickly than in longer books.
A definite recommended read.
Jamie Lake Novels Interview with Jaxx Steele
Interview With Gay Romance Blogger and Author Jaxx Steele
IMG_0015I have the great pleasure to interview today gay romance blogger and author Jaxx Steele from Guys Like Romance, Too! He has an exciting blog where he has a theme every month and features authors he admires and supports. He also features the best m/m books to read out there. If you’re looking for a resource created with so much passion and packed with a lot of value, I strongly recommend you check his blog!
Tell us about you and your blog. Where can we read it?
Three years ago Carson Douglas, an avid reader of m/m literature, and I, a gay romance author, decided we wanted to help shine the spot light on the genre that we loved so much. At the time we couldn’t find any blog sites solely dedicated to m/m literature. So we talked it over and launched Guys Like Romance, Too! in December, 2011. Guys Like Romance, Too is a theme oriented blog site, meaning each month has a specific theme that the author’s book must have in order to blog that month with the exception of blog tours. We felt this was a good way to give all genres a chance to shine and it alerts the readers interested in that particular a chance to peek at several authors and books in their favorite genre. This is the direct link www.guyslikeromancetoo.blogspot.com
Why are you passionate about reading and reviewing m/m books?
I have always loved reading books of all genres. I read my first gay romance in 2005 and I knew that I wanted to write them. We hooked up with Slave’s Erotic Reviews early 2013 because we were getting so many emails from people asking if we reviewed also. Slave’s Erotic Reviews lost 2 reviewers due to offline conflicts, thus they are on hiatus until the turn of the year to catch up and acquire new reviewers.
When did you start blogging?
We opened our doors with a holiday celebration in December, 2011.
Many of my readers love reading m/m blogs but what makes yours unique compared to others?
I think our theme schedule makes us different. For example, by looking at our schedule readers who really like alien books, steampunk or transgender books knew to come check us our in August when our theme was ‘Out the Box: the untouched genres’. Our unique schedule gives the author the ability to plan ahead. Also we have partnered with Totally Bound Publishing and Dreamspinner Press. Both house produce excellent m/m books of all genres and they have their own days for their authors to shine: Totally Bound Mondays and Hump Days with Dreamspinner Press.
What would you like to see more of in m/m literature that you don’t see now?
Personally I’d like to see more of the out the box stuff, the steampunk, alien, transgender and the like. It is an under rated area and some really good stories can come from that area.
What are tips you can give to aspiring reviewers?
It’s always best to be honest when you review someones work, but a good reviewer remembers that the author has put their heart and soul into writing that story. Taking others feeling into consideration may be the way to go when giving your opinion.
Jamie Lake is the author of Bad Boy: Naughty at Night and other m/m gay romance novels.
TITLE: Marked!
AUTHOR: Jaxx Steele
PUBLISHER:  Totally Bound PublishingMarked!
LENGTH:  55 pages
BLURB:
Sharing what you know with your lover can give him the power he needs to win, especially when he’s fighting a rogue wolf.
Mark Delonco was betrayed, ostracized, rejected, beaten and left for dead by a pack brother. As he wanders the forest, an unfamiliar scent brings him to a gruesome scene—and his betrayer. Another confrontation brings not only victory for the moment but also the possibility for love and redemption.
Victor Bradley could never maintain a relationship with anyone and he didn’t know why. It wasn’t that something was wrong with the men he chose, it was just that no one ever felt right to him. While visiting his forest home, a stranger appears at the door and changes his life. How can he know a man he has never met?
REVIEW: Wow! The start of this story is amazing, adrenaline pumping to the point I was left breathless. As you can imagine I was glued to my chair.
This is a sweet paranormal romance oozing with sensuality. It is action packed as you can imagine after all, Mark was a rejected pack member. His betrayer is still around and continuing to be a bully and a deceiver.
Victor is a victim of this betrayer and you need to read how he became of victim. The romance between Victor and Mark is almost instant once Victor becomes an adult. I struggled in that scene, I must say partly the dialogue was not unique so I was not shocked or left breathless and partly because of the instant start of their bonding. It spends a fair amount of time of the sex scene between Mark and Victor which is a nice read but is fluffy and predictable language like “My God, you are incredible! I have wanted to feel like this for so long.”
The other thing is Mark at the beginning appeared to be the alpha but somehow Victor with his human abilities was another alpha. I couldn’t get my head around that but saying that I liked how Mark was portrayed. He had weaknesses so he was more than just a handsome werewolf. He often was losing his fight with Raymond who is the betrayer in the story but mark still did not quit and tried to win his rightful place in this pack. That part was very endearing.  The fight between Mark and Raymond was described well and was easy to visualize for me which was very engaging.
This is an easy to read story with a predictable plot but nevertheless still an enjoyable story.
Marked by Jaxx SteeleWriting what women want by Jaxx Steele
I must admit my surprise when I was asked to write this blog. I have been writing romance novels for the last seven years and have written many blogs on many topics, but this was the first time this topic has come up.
When I sit down to write a story I do not have the thought, “I wonder if women will like this” hovering in my mind. *smile* My main characters are men and I write from a male point of view, but I am conscious that women are buying my books. I poll women often asking them about situations that they care about. I keep an ongoing list and try to use them to spark ideas for my books. With that in mind, I try to lure people to my books with worthy characters. Even my bad guys have amiable qualities to it easier for readers to cultivate a love/hate relationship with them.
I have found that men and women are basically looking for the same things in a good book. They want to be entertained with a good story and engaging and well written characters. That is one of the many things I do keep in the forefront of my mind while writing.
As an erotic romance writer my primary goal is to focus on the romance, but I never forget about those traits when creating characters and writing interactions between them. Men and women are basically turned on by the same things. Attractive, seductive, smart, somewhat mysterious and likable characters. The main characters are passionate men, in battle and in bed. The fight scenes in my books are as detailed as my love scenes. Sometimes I re-enact them to keep them realistic, fresh and different between characters and from book to book. The reasoning behind that is I want all the reader’s senses engaged while they’re reading. That seems to go over well with the men and the women who read my books.
Mark is the main character in my latest release, Marked! He is charming, patient, handsome, loyal, and empathetic. But Raymond, the antagonist, is violent, arrogant, overly ambitious and overall horrible to Mark at each of their encounters. However he is liked by many of his other tribe mates because he is loyal to his clan, a very good fighter, strong, masculine and very handsome. Mark and Raymond’s battles begin when they are young and go on until they are well pass adulthood.
I must admit that Marked! has turned out to be one of my favorite stories. Mark’s interaction between with Raymond is filled with fear, unwarranted hatred and overconfidence. When Mark meets Victor, his potential love interest, you get to see another side of Mark. Their contact is on the opposite end of the spectrum. He is patient, loving, compassionate and vulnerable.
In this book you will see lies exposed, secrets uncovered, blood bonds healed, how patient love can be is revealed and redemption between family and clan mates. Marked! has all that plus great fight scenes and hot sex scenes to boot.
Jaxx Steele: When Enough is Enough
reynaudsredemption_800Please welcome Jaxx Steele to AReCafe!
I love reading romance books about main characters that conquer whatever threatens the loving relationship they’re in. Be it inner turmoil or and physical threat, the main character doesn’t get a moments peace. My favorites are the ones that put the main character on adrenaline overload. The main character is always stuck between a rock and a hard place. He has just averted one crisis and before he can take a sigh of relief the bad guy is back throwing him into something else. That’s where Reynaud finds himself in Reynaud’s Redemption.
He was unjustly accused and sentenced for a crime he didn’t commit. It took him over a hundred years to rebound from his punishment, only to have the love of his life threatened and possibly taken from him by someone in his lover’s past. Just as Reynaud thinks all is well, someone from his past comes to threaten not only everything he has personally built up but innocent people around him as well.
Between the folklore of Haitian voodoo magic, the highs and lows of dealing with unresolved past issues and putting the power of love on display, Reynaud’s Redemption was a blast to write.
Jaxx Steele, author of A Packaged Deal
Three of my favorite desserts:
• New York cheesecake with or without strawberries because I’m not really a cake person so this is my go-to dessert.
Fudge brownies because I am a serious chocoholic that refuses to get treatment. It’s my drug of choice.
• And … raspberries with white chocolate chips inside them. I pop them when I am stuck at my computer in “the zone” because they feed my chocolate addiction and don’t mess up my fingers.
Here’s the blurb about A Packaged Deal:
Murder, greed and jealousy took everything Reynaud had. His lover, high position and his way of life were gone in the blink of an eye. Condemned for a crime he didn’t commit, Reynaud was doomed to suffer the highest punishment his people could bestow. Only the love of a mentor saved him from destruction, giving him a second chance at life.
After more than 100 years he finally met Cameron. Cam’s love set him free and helped him put his life back on track, but something still nagged in the back of Reynaud’s mind. He hoped going ‘home’ would ease his weariness, but it only raised more questions. It was apparent that things had changed during his absence. Friends had lost their places and enemies had gained undeserved power.
Will the final confrontation with his past destroy everything Reynaud had in his present preventing him from having a future with Cam?
